Melanie Powers Obituary

Melanie Lynn Powers, 46, of Front Royal, VA, passed away January 18, 2026, at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.

Melanie was born February 13, 1979, at Prince Georges Hospital in Cheverly, MD to Roger Jonathan Powers, Sr. and Betty Darlene (Denning) Powers. She graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas VA. Her passion was ballet and she took dance lessons starting at 7 yrs old at the Ben Lomond Community Center. She loved dancing "on pointe" and took lessons for over 12 years. After graduating from high school, she worked in different fields over the years and enjoyed the variety. She moved to Front Royal, VA, in 2007 where she had her daughter Natasha Powers; Natasha filled her life with pride and joy. One of Melanie's happiest moments was watching Natasha graduate from high school with honors.

After Melanie's father passed in 2014, she took on the home maintenance issues and repairs, with some help from our neighbors when needed. She kept a meticulous account of everyone's appointments, including pets, and when everything needed to be done, insisting that smoke alarm batteries be changed twice a year. She helped her mother with computer tech issues, and when she needed help her favorite phrase was "I know, I'll call my brother!" There would then be laughter about always being the little sister no matter her age!

Melanie was predeceased by her father, Roger J. Powers Sr., she is survived by her daughter, Natasha Powers, her mother, Betty Powers, her brother, Jonathan Powers, and Aunts, Uncles, and numerous cousins.

Instead of a traditional funeral, Melanie chose to donate her body to science in the hopes of helping others. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
