Shirley Powers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Auble Funeral Home - Orrville on Feb. 6, 2026.
Shirley M. Powers, age 85, of Orrville, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Aultman Hospital in Canton, following a period of declining health.

Shirley was born on September 12, 1940, in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Thomas Powers and Kate (Beam) Hinkle.

She devoted many years of her life to caring for others as a nursing aide, serving residents at several area nursing homes, including Shady Lawn in Dalton, Glendora in Wooster, and what was formerly known as Brenn-Field in Orrville. Shirley's career was marked by love, dedication, and genuine compassion. She had a true gift for caregiving and formed meaningful bonds with those she served; she loved her residents dearly, and they loved her in return.

A woman of deep faith, Shirley loved her Lord and was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. In her free time, she enjoyed going for boat rides or taking a ride on the back of a motorcycle. Above all, Shirley will be remembered by her family as the sweetest woman with the biggest heart. She cherished every moment spent with her loved ones and had a special affection for animals, especially her cats and her beloved dog, Ellie Mae.

Surviving are her children, Tim (Tammy) McCartney, Brad W. (Becky) McCartney, Karen J. (Michael) Diehl, Kristine McCartney, and Fred (Chrissy Smyser) Seckel Jr.; sister, Patricia L. Powers; step-sisters, Sandy Hinkle, Debbie Powers, Kathy Powers, and Celia Powers; step-brother, Tommy Powers; numerous nieces and nephews; many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and a special cousin, Jenette Conrad, with whom Shirley shared a close bond while growing up.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ernest "Bud" McCartney; her second husband, Fred H. Seckel; daughter, Kimberly I. McCartney; grandson, Nathan Yoder; son-in-law, Kevin Yoder; sisters, Betty Powers and Sue Powers; step-brothers, Danny Hinkle and David Hinkle; and her grandmother, Martha Jane Powers, who helped raise her.

A celebration of Shirley's life will take place at a later date. Burial of ashes will take place at the St. Michael's Cemetery in Marshallville.

Memorials may be made to Christian and Missionary Alliance Church 300 S. Walnut St., Orrville, OH 44667 orrvillecma.org.
