Melanie Carol Smith-McDaniel

Melanie Carol Smith was born and raised in Shreveport Louisiana. She arrived at the Schumpert Hospital on March 7th, 1957, to bless Doris, Billy and her then 4-year-old brother, Frank.
She grew up surrounded by woods, railroad tracks, bike trails, tree houses and as many adventures as we could dream up. Melanie had a loving mother and a hard-working father and although we did not have much, we never went without. She had a neighborhood full of friends and stayed busy with piano lessons, cheerleading, having fun and growing up.
Melanie made a career with her dad at the US Post Office. In 1989, she transferred to the Post Office in Kingston Tennessee, where she bought 14 acres in the middle of the Tennessee Smokey mountains and designed and built a "majestic" home in the hills. She taught herself carpentry, stone masonry and brick laying. She could design and build anything. Melanie was also a highly skilled stained-glass artist. Her pieces are truly magnificent, and she always gave them away to friends and family.
Melanie loved to travel and made all of our cruises, motorcycle rides and NASCAR races special. She was a lover of all animals and a mega fan of Stevie Nicks. She was very proud of the fact that she "Rode the Dragon"---a special section of motorcycle highway in the Smokies that required a good bit of motorcycle skill and a lot of nerve.
Melanie Carol is a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and she is in His arms today. She loved her bible study group at First Presbyterian Church in Edmond. She loved her nieces, Ashley and Erika and her group of neighbors and friends. She was one that would help whoever needed help. She would listen to whoever needed an ear. She would befriend whoever was lonely.
Melanie was a "one in a million" sweetheart sister that fought a courageous battle against depression for many years.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Edmond Christ Community Church (915 E 33rd St, Edmond, OK 73013) at 10:00AM.
