Richard Rollins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crawford Family Funeral & Cremation Service - Edmond on Feb. 9, 2026.
Richard Palmer Rollins, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, at the age of 87 in his hometown of Oklahoma City, after a courageous battle with cancer and dementia. Born on May 20, 1938, in Oklahoma City, to Comer and Gladys Rollins. Richard's life was marked by his unwavering spirit, his passion for adventure, and his skilled hands that could build and fix anything.

After completing his education at Corpus Christi Catholic Grade School and being part of the first graduating class from Northwest Classen in 1956, Richard went on to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma. His love for his country and sense of duty led him to serve as a LtJG in the Navy aboard the USS Hancock CVA-19, an experience that shaped much of his early life. Following his military service, Richard returned to Oklahoma City, where he made a name for himself in the construction industry. Initially working for Makins Concrete, he later founded his own successful Home Building and Remodeling Business. His work not only showcased his craftsmanship but also his dedication to creating homes that families would cherish for generations.

Richard's Christian faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through both good times and adversities. He was a man who lived his beliefs through his actions, his kindness, and his commitment to his family and community. An avid boater and snow skier, Richard found joy in the great outdoors. His passion for boating was only matched by the meticulous care he put into building model ships, a hobby that reflected his attention to detail and patience. Additionally, Richard's enthusiasm for the University of Oklahoma football was infectious, and he rarely missed a chance to cheer on the Sooners with his family and friends.

Those who knew Richard best would describe him as handy, passionate, and spirited. He was a man who tackled every project with zeal and never shied away from a challenge. His warm presence and the love he had for his family were palpable to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, his big brother Robert L Rollins, and his beloved younger sister Janice Laughlin.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Gloria (Chandler) Rollins of Edmond; his loving daughter, Julie Shannon of Edmond; his cherished daughter and son-in-law, Christy and John Grounds of Edmond; his adored granddaughters, Keira Shannon, Cadee Shannon, and Collins Grounds; his caring sister-in-law, Carlene Rollins of Tulsa; his supportive brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Laura Chandler of Hutto, Texas; his dear brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Paula Martin of Lewisville, Texas; and several loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Richard Palmer Rollins lived a life full of love, service, and dedication. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the extraordinary life he led and the countless ways in which he enriched our lives. Richard's journey on earth may have come to an end, but his spirit and the memories he created will forever remain a guiding light for his family and friends.
