Melba L. Altmeyer, age 89, passed away with her family by her side on January 13, 2024. She was one of the strongest and toughest people you would meet. She had the most caring heart and loved her family more than anything. She loved spending time with her family and you’d often find them playing games and dominoes together. In her free time, she loved to color and work on her sudoku books.
Melba was born April 8, 1934 in Daviess County, Indiana to Susan and Charles Simmers. She was raised by her grandparents, Christian and Gertrude Bauer and their 15 children. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald A. Altmeyer, her 6 brothers, 1 sister and her grandson. She is survived by her 6 children, Susan Haskin, Sheri (Pat) Madaras, Ronald (Sadie) Altmeyer, Phillip (Sheila) Altmeyer, Donita (Jim) Cooley and Melba Ann (Darryl) Sillings, her 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Viewing will be held at Flanner Buchanan on Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 4-8. The funeral will be Monday, January 22, 2024 at 1pm with burial to follow in West Newton Cemetery.
