Edward Dax Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care - Indianapolis on Feb. 20, 2026.
Edward F. Dax, age 83, passed away on February 7, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong servant to others, Ed lived a life marked by compassion, humility, and quiet strength.

Born on March 14, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ed grew up with a strong sense of family, community, and responsibility. Those early values would guide him throughout his life and shape a career dedicated to helping others.

He attended North Catholic High School and later, Gannon University where he earned a varsity letter as a member of the baseball team, and later continued his studies at Western Michigan University, where he pursued his calling in social work. Ed went on to serve as a social worker for Veterans Affairs. The majority of his career was spent in Battle Creek, MI, where he spent his professional life advocating for and supporting the men and women who had served their country. Known for his steady presence, thoughtful counsel, and deep empathy, he made a lasting impact on the lives of countless veterans and their families.

Outside of his career, Ed embraced a wide range of interests that reflected both his energy and his appreciation for quiet, meaningful pursuits. He was an avid runner and golfer, and he found great joy and peace in fly fishing. In later years, he developed a passion for bonsai and wood carving, hobbies that reflected his patience, craftsmanship, and love of the outdoors. Whether on the course, along a stream, or at his workbench, he found fulfillment in simple, purposeful moments.

Above all, Ed was devoted to his family. He shared a loving marriage with his wife, Janice M. Dax, and took immense pride in his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Janice; his sons and daughter in laws, Chris/Alison and Jon/Kim; and his beloved grandchildren, Hailey, Sam, Logan, and Lucy. His quiet guidance, steady support, and gentle humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Church in Westfield, IN,. 17102 Spring Mill Rd, Westfield, IN 46074.

Ed will be remembered as a man of integrity, kindness, and service-someone who lived without pretense and always put others first. His legacy lives on in his family and in the many lives he touched through his work and friendships.

Earlier today

I will always picture Ed on the golf course with his best buddies. He was always smiling and full of fun. Marc and I enjoyed many fun times together with Ed and Jan and Jean and Larry. I´m sure he´s organizing golf outings in Heaven even now. He will be missed
