Mrs. Melba Yvonne King Collier was born on February 22, 1951, to Daisy Lou and Jimmy King, Sr., in Thomaston Upson County, Georgia. She received her formal education in the Upson County School System and Pike County School System. She furthered her education at Flint River Technical College, (Southern Crescent) and obtained her certification as an Office Coordinator.
Before Yvonne was united in holy matrimony with the love of her life Robert Collier, Robert made a bold claim that he would make Yvonne his wife in 1964. Soon after graduating from high school, Ms. Melba Yvonne King and Mr. Robert Collier were married on October 19, 1968, and they spent nearly 57 years together. Their union was blessed with 3 children.
Yvonne accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was united with Fellowship Baptist Church, where she served as an Usher, a Choir Member, Secretary, and Deaconess. She loved attending Bible Study. In her leisure time Yvonne enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Some of her favorite hobbies were cooking, watching the games show network, playing scrabble, and buying gifts for friends and family.
On Friday, September 12, 2025, Mrs. Melba Yvonne King Collier name was called, and she answered and was free from all sickness and pain. Rest now in peace and comfort, your journey has ended, battle fought, and victory won. She was preceded in death her father, Jimmy King, Sr., her children, Rodney Collier, and Atticus Collier; sisters, Jessie King, Dirish King, Cynthia McDowell, and Anita Barkley; and her brothers, Willie Edward Whatley, Jr., Ricky King, Richard King, and Jimmy King, Jr.
Mrs. Melba Yvonne King Collier leaves a legacy of memories to be cherished in the heart of her loving and devoted husband, Mr. Robert Collier; son, Theron Collier; daughter-in-law, Kendra Collier, her mother, Daisy Lou Thornton; grandson, Brandon Collier, brothers, Charlie (Christeen) Beach, Gerald (Charlene) Beach, Anthony (Heidi) Whatley, Raymond Whatley, Henry Lee King, and Eugene King; sisters, Bertha (Ronald) Harden, Glory Gina Wilson, Florine Purnell, Flossie Hicks, Joann (John) Mathis, and Mary Ann Walker; uncles and aunts, William (Earlene) Beach, Arthur J. Beach, Marcia Acey, and Nina (Thomas) Johnson. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Burden's Funeral Home. Service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Fellowship Baptist Church located at 237 Collins School Road in Thomaston. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service hour. Interment will follow in Fellowship Church Cemetery. Pastor Roy Felts, Jr., is the Eulogist.
