Melba McCully Obituary

MELBA LORRAINE MCCULLY Melba Lorraine McCully, 93, of Kirkwood, MO, passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis on Thursday, August 7, 2025. Lorraine was born on September 5, 1931, in Moberly, MO, to Howard and Dean Sims. She resided in Moberly until October of 2021, when she moved to Kirkwood, MO, to be near her daughters. Lorraine graduated from the lower division of Moberly Area Junior College in 1949. She married Myron Ray McCully, her high school sweetheart, son of Klova and Virginia McCully, on August 27, 1950. Their twins were born in October of 1951 while Ray was serving as a military police officer in Germany. Lorraine served as a secretary at the Hunter, Chamier, and Motley law firm for 10 years before beginning her career with Southwestern Bell Telephone in June of 1964 as a Records Clerk. She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone as a Network Services Supervisor-Engineering (Design) in 1986. Lorraine came out of retirement to become the legal administrator for Orscheln Brothers Industries. She retired from that position in 2005. Lorraine was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She maintained solid relationships with her parents, in-laws, spouse, and children. Lorraine served as a caregiver for aging parents and relatives. She was very involved with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Lorraine visited them often and made sure to be present for all major events such as performances, award ceremonies, graduations, and weddings. Lorraine was past president of the Business and Professional Women's chapter in Moberly and served as a director of the State Federation of BPW. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Lorraine was a charter member of Timber Lake Christian Church (formerly Union Avenue Christian Church) and served in many capacities, including Sunday School Teacher, Youth Group Sponsor, and Choir Member. The gospel of Jesus Christ was an important part of her life. She regularly attended Timber Lake Christian Church and was an active participant in her Care Group prior to relocating to Kirkwood, MO. Lorraine enjoyed exploring the world with Ray. They created many memorable moments on their sojourns. Lorraine is survived by her children, Dr. Belinda (James) Wilucki, Ph.D. of Kirkwood, MO, and Mrs. Melinda (John) Dull of Chesterfield, MO; her grandchildren, Kyle Scherzer and son Henry of Chesterfield, MO, Stacey Scherzer and husband Mark Phelps of Peoria, AZ, Kathy Dull (Mark Templeton) and children Paisley and Graham of Oak Park, IL; Tim Dull of St. Louis, MO; Andy (Maxi) Dull and children Dana and Andrew of Phoenix, AZ; Jeff (Carrie) Dull and children Bridget, Sean, and Charlotte of Alamo, CA, and Brian (Sarah) Dull and children Max, Will and Jack of Baldwin, MO; and several nieces and nephews. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Dean Sims; Ray's parents, Klova and Virginia McCully; and her sister Gloria Crutcher. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lorraine's honor may be made to Timber Lake Christian Church.
