Melba Lea Webb, 88, of Stanton, Texas, peacefully passed away on February 28, 2025. The family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Gilbreath Funeral Home in Stanton. A loving mother, grandmother, and friend, Melba's life will be celebrated during a service at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Stanton. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton.
Born on May 19, 1936, in Howard County to James "Jim" West and Laura Mae Hamilton, Melba was a proud graduate of Ackerly High School. Her life took a delightful turn when she was set up on a blind date with John Benton Webb, Jr., leading to their marriage on December 27, 1954. Together, they welcomed two children, Steve in October 1955 and Debbie in May 1959. Melba cherished her role as a full-time homemaker, creating a warm and loving environment for her family.
Family outings to Dairy Treat every Friday night, where meals cost a mere $1.68 for all four of them, became cherished memories. Melba and John celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December 2004, marking a beautiful 64 years of love and companionship.
Melba attended the First Baptist Church and had a passion for sewing and crafts. She participated in the Stanton Trade Day and various craft shows, displaying her creativity. Melba delighted in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating unforgettable moments during holidays and family reunions. Playing Bingo during gatherings brought her joy and laughter, while watching TV was a comforting pastime.
Melba is survived by her sister, Mary Moore of Odessa, Texas; her son, Steve Webb, and wife Sherion of Midland, Texas; her son-in-law, Johnny Moore of Big Spring, Texas; and her beloved grandchildren: Stephanie Clark and husband Chris of Odessa, LeAnn Webb and Wes Burnett of Anna, Texas, Laura Barber and husband Donnie of Lenorah, Shelly Casas and husband Lee of Lamesa, and Johnathan Moore and Brandi of Pointe, Texas. Melba was also the proud grandmother of great-grandchildren, including Madelyn and Ameri Clark, Kiley, Averi, and Samuel Casas, Clayton and Carter Barber, and Willow, Lillie, and Jameson Moore.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Laura West; her brother, J.P. West; her beloved husband, John Benton Webb, Jr.; and her dear daughter, Debbie Moore.
Pallbearers will include Chris Clark, Wes Burnett, Donnie Barber, Lee Casas, and Johnathan Moore, all of whom are honored to carry on her legacy of love and compassion.
In celebrating Melba's remarkable life, we remember her kindness, her creativity, and the love she shared so freely with those around her. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in our hearts.
