Beloved Matriarch. Melena June Green, 55, of
Brick, NJ died at home on September 16, 2023.
Melena was born in Long Branch in July of 1968 to June Williams [Everette] and Thurman Green Jr., who affectionately called her Lena. Her fondest childhood memories include the numerous family gatherings that her mother threw, in which half the tight knit neighborhood attended.
Melena attended Long Branch High School before attending Wagner College in Staten Island. Later, following her mommy's footsteps, she became a Licensed Practical Nurse, where she created a rewarding 30-year career. She cared for many, including critically sick children to assisting in the road to recovery for individuals with substance abuse. Her profession was an extension of her core as a woman; caring, nurturing, and compassionate.
Melena has shared her life with her loving partner, Luis Henry since 2014.
Though she loved cooking, gardening, and binge watching on Netflix, Melena's favorite role was that as a grandparent. She treasured her time with her grandkids and loved being their "gramma," never failing to answer their random q&a facetime calls.
Everyone who knew Melena knew how much she loved drawing and painting. You could often find her doodling in a quiet corner and teaching her grandsons the basics. She will always be remembered for her warm heart and generous spirit and the way that she always left her door open to help someone. We'll always imagine hearing her say "love you more" one more time. We couldn't have asked for a better mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend and will miss her every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Melena was preceded in death by Thurman Green III. (brother), June Everette (mother), and Thurman Green Jr. (father)
She is survived by her children; Ashley Green (daughter), Arabia Green (daughter), Elijah Smith (son), Ariana Smith (daughter) and Briana McGregor (daughter in law.) Her grandsons Mason Hairston and Cameron Hairston. Her siblings; Earnest Everette (brother), Evelyn Everette (sister), Angela Everette (sister), Karen Woodfolk (sister) and Dennis Everette (brother.) Her nephews; Amere Everette, Jaiden Everette, and Quamere Norwood. Grand pups, Bruce, Wes and Nala, along with a host of cousins that were more like brothers and sisters.
