Kari graduated from Hallsville High School in 1991 and Baylor University in 1994. She married her loving husband Todd Atwood on July 25, 1992 and they were devoted partners in life for thirty-three years. She homeschooled two brilliant children until their graduations in 2014 and 2017. She lived three years in Bamberg, Germany while her husband was deployed from 1994 to 1997. She travelled to Kiev, Ukraine for a month on three occasions to serve and teach with her husband on the mission field in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
