Melinda Williams
Oskaloosa. Melinda Williams, 68, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, October 31, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. She was born December 18, 1956, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Lowell and Edith Smith Myers. She attended Oskaloosa Schools. On July 3, 1974, she was united in marriage to Lyle Williams in Oskaloosa. Melinda worked as a Nurse's Aide at Siesta Park Care Center in Oskaloosa for over 20 years. Ill health forced her to retire long before she was ready. Melinda's family was the light of her life, she loved having her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at her home. She also enjoyed trips to the casino. She enjoyed crocheting and made countless hats for babies that she donated to the hospital for newborns. She loved being outdoors and visiting with family and friends in the front yard of her home. She looked forward to watching the races in Oskaloosa and cheering on her favorite WWE wrestlers on television.
Her family includes her husband of 51 years, Lyle Williams of Oskaloosa; two children, John Williams and Tabatha (Bobby) Vanderhyde all of Oskaloosa'; four grandchildren, Joshua, Michael, Austin (Abby), and Samantha Vanderhyde; two great grandchildren, Melissa Jane and Austin, Jr.; two brothers, John Myers of Oskaloosa and Dean Myers of Kansas; and two sisters, Jimella Hoff of Arkansas and Edith "Squeaky" Martin of Mississippi; and many niece and nephews.
Melinda was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Melissa Williams; a sister, Susan Harnden; and two brothers, Oscar and Roger Myers.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Molly Goodrich officiating. Burial will be in the Indianapolis Cemetery near What Cheer. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation with the family present will be Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Family.
