Veedersburg - Melissa Mary (Ingalsbe) Babb went home to her dear Lord and loved ones waiting for her in heaven, with her daughters by her side, at the age of 95, on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
Melissa was born October 26, 1929 to William Adna and Carrie Ruth (Fugate) Ingalsbe in the Lakeview Hospital, Danville, IL. Melissa was the youngest and only one of nine children born in a hospital. She attended a one room country schools through eighth grade-Hope School, first six grades; seventh grade, Fowler; eighth grade, Armstrong High School. Moving near Mellott, in March of 1944, she graduated from Richland Township High School in April of 1947.
Melissa married Vernon Ray Babb at the Covington Courthouse lawn on May 8, 1948. Vows were read by her childhood pastor, Rev. J.B. Cornett from Illinois. They lived in Mellott ten years moving out on her fathers farm in March of 1958, where they lived until moving to their own farm in March of 1970. She later moved to Lion Manor in Veedersburg in 2014, after losing her husband Vernon on July 9, 2006. She loved country life and her children and families. In July 2020, Melissa enjoyed life of a great great-grandmother.
They had five children, Dianne Ruth (Craig) Makemson, Rosemary Irene (Partner-Bennie Keltz) Moore, Melissa Ann (Bruce) Donovan, Vernon Renshawe (Verlinda) Babb, Dixie Lee (Randy) Salts.
She raised her children in Mellott and attended the Mellott Community Bible Church and is now a member of the Sterling Christian Church.
She went out to work in 1967 and her first job was with the Richland Press in Mellott and working at the Fountain County Sale Barn in Veedersburg on Friday nights. Her last employment was with Payton's Bar-B-Que for 24 years, retiring to stay home and take care of her husband, Vernon, who had dementia.
Melissa enjoyed reading, working word search puzzles and needle work.
She leaves behind her three daughters, Rosemary, Ann and Dixie; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 10 great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, Lankford, Alfa, infant Henry, Samuel, Victor, infant Roy Lawrence and Paul; a sister, Bertha Mae Neff; daughter, Dianne Makemson; a great-grandson, Logan Makemson and her son, Vernon Babb.
A special thank you goes out to the staff at the Waters of Covington and to Guardian Angel Hospice, for their compassionate care shown to our mother.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, on Friday, July 11th from 11:00 a.m. until her service time at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sterling Christian Church.
