Melissa Renee Sandage, 57, of Frankfort, passed away Friday, December 5, 2025, at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. She was born June 4, 1968, in Frankfort to William and Ginger (Brittain) Sandage.

Melissa was a graduate of Frankfort Senior High School, class of 1986. She received her certificate as a Nurse’s Aide from Wesley Manor. She worked several nursing homes and hospitals over her career including, Delphi Nursing Home, Clinton House, Home Hospital, Home Health Care, Mulberry Health and Retirement. She also worked for Head Start for 8 years as a bus monitor, a job she truly loved. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge. She was a very social and outgoing person and loved being around people. Melissa was an animal lover and loved her cats. And she had a special place in her heart for children and her family. People will remember her for her fiery attitude. You always knew where you stood with her. And when she loved and cared for others, she did so on her terms.

Melissa is survived by her mother; siblings, Annette (Rob) Heimbach, Amanda Lawson and Travis Sandage; long-time companion of 27 years, John Ponton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father.
