KEOTA- Melissia Greiner, age 72, of Keota, died Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Keystone Nursing Care Center in Keystone.
Melissia was born February 9, 1953, in Newton, the daughter of Paul and Hazel (Nordeen) Laffoon. She graduated from Washington High School in 1971 and received her RN through Indian Hills Community College. On September 7, 1974, she married Hubert Greiner at St. Peter and Paul Church. They lived in the Talleyrand area and Melissia was a nurse at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for 23 years before her retirement. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and enjoyed sewing, crafting, cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.
Survivors include four children: James Greiner of Keota, Ginny (Jeff) Plucar of Belle Plaine, Jeremiah (Anna) Greiner of Mt. Pleasant and Josh (Sarah) Greiner of Keota; eight grandchildren: Loren, Landyn, Aidan, Evan, Jackson, Chloe, Wyatt and Cooper; brother: David Laffoon of Omaha, Nebraska and a sister-in-law: Becky Laffoon of Woodlake, California. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Hubert; three brothers: Leonard Laffoon, Tim Laffoon and John Laffoon and sister-in-law: Linda Laffoon.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Jacob Greiner presiding. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.
