Russell “Russ” Duane Hill was born November 10, 1945, in Washington, Iowa, the son of John and Ruth (Drollinger) Votruba. Russ graduated from Washington High School and attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam. He worked at Hall's Feed Service in Washington for many years. After that he owned and operated Russ’s Feed Service and worked at Sedna Warehouse. On April 6, 1969, Russ was united in marriage to Susan Wetrich in Carthage, Illinois. Russ enjoyed drag racing, tractor pulls and anything mechanical. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wellman. Russ passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic in Iowa City at the age of 79 years,
Russ is survived by his wife Sue of Wellman, four children: Tim (Tina) Hill of Washington, IA, Thomas (Camie) Hill of Udell, IA., Teresa (Jeff) Horwitz of Creve Coeur, MO. and Ted (Maggie) Hill of Chesterfield, MO. 8 grandchildren: Jessica (Austin) Anderson of Wellman, IA, Zach (BreAnna) Hill of Washington, IA, Thaddeus Hill of Ames, IA, Etta Horwitz and Otis Horwitz of Creve Coeur, MO, Thomas Hill, Rose Hill and Samuel Hill of Chesterfield, MO, and 5 great grandchildren: Aaden Anderson, Addelyn Anderson and Acre Anderson of Wellman, Grayson Hill and Easton Hill of Washington, a sister LeeAnne Chase of Casper, WY. and a brother Rick Votruba of Washington, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Kiffany Stollings.
A funeral mass will be held 10:00 am Thursday, October 16, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wellman. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. A memorial fund has been established for Compassus Hospice.
