Melody Ford Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Roan Family Funeral Home - Pembroke on Jun. 19, 2025.
Acton, MA – With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Melody Gail Ford (née Martin), who died on Sunday, June 15, 2025.
Melody was born in Norwalk, Connecticut on August 22, 1946, to Gordon and Irene Martin, their only child. She attended Brigham Young University before moving to Massachusetts where she married Robert Ford in November 1974. They were married at their home in Carlisle, Massachusetts. They, along with the bridesmaid, best man, and minister were all on horseback. Horseback riding was an integral part of their lives and Melody's love for horses perfectly reflects who she was: strong, graceful, and deeply in tune with the world around her.
From the largest horse in the stable to the smallest bird at the feeder, Melody's heart knew no bounds for animals. Even the smallest lives mattered to her. If a spider found its way into the house, she would gently carry it outside, always making sure it was unharmed. When the cats brought her a mouse, she would bury it in the yard, honoring its life with quiet dignity. Her kindness was constant, and it extended to every creature she met. She shared her life with horses, dogs, cats, and even a bunny.
Melody also enjoyed sailing a Hobie Cat from their summer cottage on Lake Monomonac in Winchendon, Massachusetts and looking for beach glass every sunrise in Westport, Massachusetts. She was an avid runner and ran the Boston Marathon.
While she was a breast cancer survivor, and sick with cancer again in her later years of life, she was undoubtedly the strongest person there was. Her strength was not just in how she endured, but in how she kept showing up with love and with laughter, never once losing her sense of humor.
Melody is survived by her daughter, Tracey Ford, who vows to care for her cherished cat, Pookie, with the unwavering compassion her mother instilled in her, and promises to keep her spirit alive, forever and always.
A private ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 22, in Carlisle, surrounded by family, friends and, of course, animals. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to an animal shelter of your choice in memory of her name.
The song is over, but the melody lingers on.
