Melva Jean Jarvais, mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024, at the Medical Lodges of Independence, Kansas, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 9, 1932, in Havana, Kansas, Melva would live a life characterized by her simple yet deeply caring nature.

Melva led a fulfilling life retiring from her career as a dedicated secretary with the Independence Police Department. She was known for her simple nature and kind heart. Melva's spirit resonated with her family and friends, who cherished her warmth and gentle demeanor. A lifetime member of the VFW Lady's Auxiliary Club, Melva's dedication to her community and service was profound.

Known for her love of travel and camping, Melva found joy in life’s little adventures, often sharing and making meals that she had lovingly cooked for her family. Above all, she truly treasured these moments spent with her family, valuing those memories while creating lasting bonds among everyone.

Melva is survived by her daughter Debbie Mavers, daughter-in-law Rita Whittington, sister Reba Godwin and husband Sid, sister-in-law Betty Jarvais, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Melva was preceded in death by her first husband Don Whittington, her second husband Richard Jarvais, her parents William and Edna, her son Rodney E. Whittington, as well as her brothers John Skinner and Bill Skinner.

Melva Jean Jarvais' kind spirit and cherished memories will always be honored and remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
