Melvia Dean Jones, born on April 2, 1943, in Riverside, California, passed away peacefully at her residence on July 9, 2025. She was a beloved member of her community, known for her caring and giving nature.
Melvia moved to Jayton at a young age, where she graduated from High School. She furthered her education at McMurry University. Melvia taught school and coached in Snyder, Texas. Later spent twenty years in Canada, where she worked her way up to managing a jewelry store. In 1994, she returned to Jayton and worked for the Kent County Sheriff’s Department until her retirement.
Throughout her life, Melvia was known for her trustworthiness, love for her family, and her warm spirit. She is survived by her nephew, Gary Williams, and his wife Carolyn, and Cherry Williams (wife of the late Jack Thomas Williams Jr.), and several great nieces and nephews.
Melvia was preceded in death her parents, Grady and Odessa Jones, her sister and brother-in-law, Edith Juanita Williams and Jack Thomas Williams, as well as her nephews, Jack Thomas Williams Jr and Larry Glen Williams.
A Celebration of Life for Melvia will take place on July 29, 2025, at the First Assembly of God of Jayton, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. The service will begin at 10:30 AM.
Melvia Dean Jones will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her work, and her community. Her legacy will continue to resonate through the lives she touched.
