Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, February 28, 2025 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church honoring the life of Melvin Celestine, 72, who passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Ochsner St. Martin Hospital.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Friday from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
A rosary will be prayed at 9:00 AM on Friday.
Rev. Geroge Bede Ajuruchi SSJ will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Reader will be Kaliyah Demouchet.
Burial will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery.
Melvin was a beloved member of his family and community. He spent his life in Breaux Bridge, where he was known for his dedication to making lawns look pristine and beautiful, showcasing his passion for lawn care.
He was a man who found joy in the small things, whether it was playing Bingo, participating in the nursing home Senior Olympics, or simply spending time with loved ones. His warm spirit and kind heart touched the lives of many in the community.
He is survived by his son, Kevin Johnson (Jackie); 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; brother, Harold (Prenella) Celestine; sister, Johnella (Michael Sr.) Breaux; and his niece, Anissa Demouchet.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Hanley and Anna Mae Thibodeaux Celestine; and his sisters, Eva Demouchet, Rita Lewis, Vergie Lewis and Leona Celestine; brothers, Leroy, Hanley, Jr., and Ronald Celestine.
Pallbearers will be Dalton Alexander, Michael Breaux Sr., Edward Journet, Kevin Johnson and Daron Journet.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Demouchet, Herman Lewis, Harold Celestine, Iron Gordon, Wilbert Thibodeaux and John Calais.
Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
