Melvin Douglas Doyle, 80 of Baxley passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord on Friday, September 6, 2024, at his residence under the care of Coastal Hospice.
Douglas was born on February 7, 1944, in Baxley, Georgia. He graduated from the University of Georgia and was the owner of Douglas Doyle Electric. Douglas loved his family with all his heart. Douglas was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and in various other capacities. He was a quiet man but when he spoke everyone made sure to pay attention. He would be there to help anyone at any time. He had a heart of gold. 1 John 3: 16-18 could easily sum up the way that he lived his life every day.
He was preceded in death by his parents Melvin & Winnie Hutchinson Doyle.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dovie Lamb Doyle; his daughters, Delena (Lamar) Leggett and Deneta (Ricky) Lightsey, and his son, Daron Doyle, all of Baxley; grandchildren, Jessica (James) Johnson of Honolulu, Hawaii, Joshua (Brittany) Leggett of Hephzibah, Georgia, Doyle Leggett of Summerville, South Carolina, Luke Lightsey and Jack Lightsey both of Baxley; great granddaughters, Kyrie Johnson and Zoe Johnson of Honolulu, Hawaii; sisters, Ann Wallace of Dublin, Georgia, Linda Powell of Louisville, Georgia, Rose Yawn of Baxley, Georgia, a brother, Gene (Bonnell) Doyle of Baxley, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Lanell Lamb (Sue Williams) and Beverly (Johnny) Hobbs; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 11:00am from the First Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Anderson, Rev. Robert Wigley and Elder Thomas Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will be Joshua Leggett, Doyle Leggett, Lamar Leggett, Luke Lightsey, Jack Lightsey, and Ricky Lightsey.
Honorary Pallbearers will be all family and friends in attendance and the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Swain Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Doug to The Gideons, First Baptist Church, Coastal Hospice or Constructors for Christ.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
