Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home on Dec. 18, 2025.
Melvin Eugene "Gene" Hall, age 91, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 17, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born June 12, 1934, in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, to Elmer and Edna (Edmiston) Hall, and was raised in Uniontown, graduating from South Union High School in 1952.
On June 12, 1956, Gene married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Hosa) Hall. They settled in Warren, Michigan, where Gene worked for Central Steel and Wire in Detroit for 21 years, until his retirement. Following retirement, the couple moved to Hersey, Michigan, where Gene enjoyed life along the Muskegon River. A hardworking man of many skills, Gene was rarely without a chainsaw, hammer, shovel, or Bible in hand. He loved landscaping, gardening, and was a gifted builder, constructing barns and shelters for his horses, a riverside gazebo, and playhouses and swing sets for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he deeply loved. Gene cherished his family and was immensely proud of his grandchildren. His two grandsons, Jayson, a Baptist preacher, and Michael, a U.S. soldier, as well as two granddaughters, Meagan and Cheyenne, who brought him great joy by lovingly spoiling him and baking his favorite treats.
A faithful servant of Christ, Gene was a member of First Baptist Church in Evart, Michigan, serving as a deacon from 1998 to 2015. After moving to
Cadillac, Michigan, he joined Faith Baptist Church, where he immediately became active in serving, including caring for the church grounds. Gene's greatest passion was for souls. He was a bold witness who shared the gospel at every opportunity, often asking, "Do you know for sure, if you were to die today, you would go to heaven?" His favorite verse, John 3:16, was used by God to lead many to Christ.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Elizabeth Hall of
Cadillac, MI; his daughter, Deborah Hall-Godsey of
Cadillac, MI; grandchildren, Jayson (Meagan) Godsey of Manton, MI, and Cheyenne (Michael) Gossman of Fort Riley, KS; and five great-grandchildren, Savannah, Tyler, Madison, Taylor, and Abigail; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Edna Hall; a son, Robert Eugene Hall; and 17 brothers and sisters.
Gene entered heaven and was welcomed by his Lord and Savior with the words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." His life stands as a testimony of faith, service, and devotion to God and family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at 11 a.m. with visitation held one hour prior at Faith Baptist Church with Dr. Jayson Godsey, Pastor, to officiate. A time of fellowship will follow the services, also at the church.
Memorial contributions in Gene's memory may be directed to Faith Baptist Church.
