Melvin F. Markulik, 82, of Carmichaels, passed away, unexpectedly, Saturday, March 18, 2023, in his home. He was born April 14, 1940, in Wyano, a son of the late Michael A. and Margaret Leggin Markulik.
Mr. Markulik was a 1958 graduate of Cumberland Township High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 until 1962, when he moved to Washington, D.C. to work for United Airlines.
He and his brother, Michael "Jack" Markulike, operated the Sunoco service station in Carmichaels from 1964 until 1965, when Melvin returned again to work for United Airlines at multiple airports including Dulles, Va., Los Angeles, Calif., Cleveland, Ohio and Denver, Colo., where he retired in 1995. For a brief time, he worked as an automotive salesman in Boulder, Colo.
Mr. Markulik was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Carmichaels and was a former fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed golfing, going to the Dairy Queen, traveling on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and, no matter where he was, Melvin was always an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. Mr. Markulik supported his children in their sports and cherished traveling to his grandchildren's sporting events.
On June 25, 1960, he married Barbara M. Parrish, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Cynthia A. Smith (Brian) of Brunswick, Ohio; two sons, Anthony W. Markulik (Lori) of Aurora, Colo. and Michael A. Markulik of Carmichaels; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Shannon, Samantha, Cody, Lauren, Zach, Molly, Alexis, Melanie, Gregory; five great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Brayden, Nayson, Laylynn and Kobe; a brother, Harry James "Boots" Markulik of Carmichaels; a sister-in-law, Dolores A. Markulik of Carmichaels; son-in-law, Al Finch of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a daughter, Melanie Finch; a grandson, Joshua Markulik; three brothers, Michael "Jack" Markulike and wife Nellie, William Charles Markulik and wife Mary, and Bernard A. Markulik; a sister, Betty June Long and husband Wayne; three nephews, Gary Long, Stephen J. Markulik and John Markulik; and a niece, Brenda A. Markulik.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 23, in the Yoskovich Funeral Home (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street, Carmichaels, where a blessing service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 24, followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of the Resurrection in St. Matthias Parish at St. Hugh, Carmichaels, with the Rev. James Farnan as celebrant. Interment, with military honors by the U.S. Navy and the Greene County Honor Guard, will follow at Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels.
