Obituary published on Legacy.com by Slay Memorial Funeral Center - Aubrey on Nov. 15, 2025.
Melvin Alvie Proctor, 99, of
Aubrey, TX, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2025. He was born September 3, 1926, in Ragtown, OK to Everett Proctor and Nona Effie Meek. He married Pat Ramsey in Carlsbad, NM on December 23, 1950, and courageously served our country during WW2.
From a young age, Melvin exhibited an incredibly strong work ethic. In 1938, at just 13 years old, he helped his father drive 35 head of cattle to a new homestead.
Moving to what would become their cherished family farm, where the simplicity of life in a four-room shell house, warmed by a wood stove, shaped his character. It was here, amidst the cattle, crops, garden, and chickens, that he developed a profound love for the land and the work that came with it.
During World War II, he was drafted and served as a medic in the South Pacific, a time marked by silence from home, as he had no communication with his family for two long years. Despite these challenges, he returned home with resilience and strength, determined to build a life for himself and his loved ones. He began his professional journey with a drilling company in his home state of Oklahoma.
Seeking further opportunities, he found his way to Cactus Drilling Company in Jal, New Mexico- one of the largest land-based contract drilling companies in the United States. With 60 rigs and 8 offshore platforms, it was a place where he would rise through the ranks, working tirelessly and holding various positions. It was also here in New Mexico where Melvin met his beloved wife, Pat. Becoming a union, he began his life as a devoted husband in 1950.
In 1960, he welcomed his first and only child into the world, Kelli.
With the support of his wife, the pride of being a father, and being recognized for his years of hard work, Melvin began earning higher positions. Ultimately, he earned the promotion to V.P of his company in 1973 and moved to Plano, TX.
Melvin had an intense passion for the outdoors, a love for tractors, animals- particularly horses. These were joys he cherished and shared with Kelli. He had a generous heart, always willing to go the extra mile for family, friends, co-workers, ensuring everyone around him was treated fairly. Melvin cared about helping others and sharing his knowledge in various skills including electrical work, mechanical tasks, farming, and welding.
A true patriarch, the fatherly love he had for Kelli carried on to his grandson, Wes. He took great delight in mentoring Wes, teaching him valuable life lessons, and cherishing every moment they spent together.
That kindness also extended to his son-in-law, Brad, whom he embraced not just as family, but as a friend and mentor over the 35 years of Kelli's marriage to him.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Pat Proctor of Aubrey TX; daughter, Kelli McCamy of
Aubrey, TX; grandson, Wesley McCamy of Round Rock, TX: brother, Dale Proctor of Wetumka, OK; and sister, Patti Word of Oklahoma City, OK.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Doyle Proctor; and parents, Everett and Effie Proctor.
As we remember Melvin, we celebrate a life filled with love, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to family and community. His legacy will live on through those who were fortunate enough to know him – a man who truly understood the value of hard work, kindness, and the joy of sharing life's journey with loved ones.
