Melvin Walther, a beloved figure in the community and a dedicated family man, passed away on July 11, 2025, in Allen, Texas, at the age of 89. Born on September 22, 1935, in Thorndale, Texas, Melvin led a life characterized by hard work, kindness, and a deep love for his family and friends.

Throughout his career, Melvin worked for Lone Star Gas for many years before pursuing his entrepreneurial spirit by owning his own feed store. He was proud of his professional accomplishments and showed the same commitment to his community by serving as President of the local Lions Club chapter, representing them at a national meeting. His dedication and sweet demeanor left an indelible mark on those around him.

Education was important to Melvin, who graduated from Thorndale High School before attending Durham's Business College. He was a lifelong learner, constantly seeking to expand his knowledge and skills, which he applied both in his career and personal life.

Melvin was known for his love of the outdoors, spending time working outside, fixing up old cars and tractors, and enjoying time with cattle in the fields. He had a particular fondness for the iconic 1965 and 1966 Mustangs, products of an era that embodied his love for American craftsmanship. In his younger years, he actively participated in dove and deer hunting, as well as fishing trips, particularly deep-sea fishing with his sons, which created lasting memories that his family cherishes.

Family was the core of Melvin’s life. He is survived by his sister, Carol Cole; daughter-in-law, Tami Walther; son, Shawn Walther, and wife, Sandra; daughter, Wendy Koch, and husband, Jeffrey; and his cherished grandchildren: Brandon Walther, Michelle Tucker, Ryan Walther, Courtney Walther, Jonathan Koch, Elizabeth Koch, and Andrew Koch. Melvin’s love extended to many great granddaughters and grandsons who filled his life with joy.

Melvin was blessed with cherished companionship to his beloved wife, Marjorie Walther who predeceased him. Melvin was also preceded in death by his son, Craig Walther. He was also preceded in death by his father, Arthur Albert Henry Walther, and his mother, Emilie Marie Walther.

In his later years, Melvin found joy in simpler pleasures—whether it was coffee time with friends or enjoying his favorite TV shows, including “Family Feud" and watching polka dancing. He had a special affinity for desserts and delighted in showing off his toys, which included a golf cart, four-wheeler, and side-by-side, often taking his grandchildren for rides.

Melvin Walther will be remembered as a hardworking man with a sweet disposition, someone who brought happiness to others and created a lifetime of memories through his unwavering love and support for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and dedication that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege to know him.
