PEORIA – Melvin Charles Willis, 84, of Peoria, Illinois, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 6:34 p.m. on December 9, 2025.
Born on July 11, 1941, to Charles and Jeanne Marie (Miller) Willis, Melvin grew up with the values that would shape his entire life: faith, family, hard work, and kindness. He dedicated his working years to Pipco, where he earned a reputation as one of the best-able to move earth and handle any piece of equipment set before him with unmatched skill.
On April 6, 1968, Melvin married the love of his life, Dorothy Margaret (Pittman) Willis. This year they celebrated 57 years of marriage, a testament to their unwavering devotion. Together, they raised two sons, James Charles Willis and Steven Marshall Willis, and built a life rooted in country living-raising horses, riding together, and teaching their children the value of simple joys and honest work.
Many knew Melvin by his nickname "Bullfrog," was given for a trip to water Park or from his deep belly laugh depending on who you get the story from. His greatest joy came from caring for his family and anyone fortunate enough to cross his path. Melvin never knew a stranger; he met the world with a warm heart, generous hands, and a spirit that made everyone feel welcome.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Wynne Carter.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Peoria; his sons, Jim and Steven, both of Peoria; and his grandchildren, Cody Willis (Carly Griggs) of Sullivan, Missouri, Katlin (Seth) Coakley of Clinton, Sierra (Michael Warren) Willis of Peoria; Trevor Willis of Bloomington; Hailey Russell of Clinton; and Kelsey Russell of Lincoln. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Marilyn Carter of Hanna City, along with many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
To know Melvin was to know love-steady, dependable, and wholehearted. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched.
