Meredith Anne McConnell Elmore suddenly passed away peacefully in her sleep in her home in Rye, NY on Sunday, July 6. She was 82. She was not ill and did not suffer. She lived life to the fullest until her last moment, recently jumping in the waves and boogieboarding with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Lynne Patrice Elmore Phy (Charlie) and devoted granddaughters Christiane Catherine, 14, and Kelley Meredith, 13 of Rye, NY. She is also survived by her brother Peter McConnell (Irene), and sisters Patricia Gavan (Hank) and Dorothy Giersch (Mike) and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving daughter, Christiane Marie and her husband, Guy Crane Elmore, She was also predeceased by sisters Regina David, Alice Geraldine McConnell and Kathleen DeCew.
Meredith, affectionately known as Merry, was born in the Bronx,NY in 1942, the seventh child of Alice and Frank McConnell. The family moved to Mamaroneck, NY in 1956 where Merry attended Rye Neck High School. She is a graduate of St Bonaventure University, where she majored in French and foreign languages. For many years, she was a beloved teacher at the French American School in Larchmont, NY.
She was a lifelong devoted Catholic, attending daily Mass at Church of the Resurrection in Rye and she always found great comfort in the church and her faith. She brought joy and laughter to all who knew her as she had a wonderful sense of humor. She will be sadly missed.
The family will receive friends at the Graham Funeral Home on Thursday July 10, 2025 from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at The Church of the Resurrection in Rye, NY on Friday July 11, 2025 at 10 AM. Interment to follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation maybe made in Meredith's honor to Doctor's Without Borders, Catholic Relief Services, or Save the Children.
