Merle Emanuel Ellinger, 95, of Logan, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2026, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Logan. Merle was born on October 15, 1930, in Hocking County, the son of the late Emanuel and Florence (Blum) Ellinger. He was married for nearly 68 years to the late Betty J. (Frasure) Ellinger.
Merle worked as a Butcher. He also owned stores, with his wife Betty, in Croton and Logan. He leaves a lasting legacy of love and cherished memories. He was the cornerstone of this family, whose spirit remains with us. His stories and love will endure in the hearts of those who knew him, and his legacy continues through everyone he touched.
Merle is survived by his grandchildren, Jeffrey E. Ellinger of Rockbridge, Nathan F. (Stephanie) Ellinger of Ross County, and Jessica L. (Tim Bigham) Ellinger of Logan; great grandchildren, Breanna (Jacob) Boyd, Wyat Ellinger, Kaylee Ellinger, Grant (Ashley) Stewart, Dillon Stewart, Audrianna Watson, twins Alanna and Aleeah Watson, Miley Bigham, and Gracelynn Bigham; 3 great-great grandchildren; special friend Larry Dickens; and several nieces and nephews including David Rauber.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents, Emanuel and Florence; wife, Betty; sons, Jeffrey L. Ellinger and Douglas L. Ellinger; brothers, Donald Ellinger, Paul Ellinger, and Lawrence J. Ellinger; and sister, Helen Rauber.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Thursday, March 12, 2026, in the Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan, with Rev. David Roach officiating. Interment will be in New Fairview Memorial Gardens, Rockbridge. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
