It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Merle Finesse (Holland-Leis) Frenzel. She peacefully passed away at her home on Friday, February 27, 2026, with her family at her side, at the age of 89.
Merle was born on December 9, 1936, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Norton Holland and Virginia (Stultz) Holland. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School and then attended Capital University (Ohio) and Western Michigan University. She earned a Master's Degree, equipping her with the knowledge and skills to nurture young minds and inspire a love for music. Her career as a Choral Music Teacher and Counselor in Saginaw Public Schools spanned 39 years .
Beyond her professional life, Merle was known for her vibrant spirit and diverse interests. An avid ACBL Life Master in bridge, Merle found joy in the strategic challenges and social connections the game offered. Her green thumb brought beauty and life to her garden, while her appreciation for the arts was evident in her love for music, especially Arthur Hill High School music and musicals. Cats held a special place in her heart, and she cherished the companionship they provided. Merle's greatest joy came from her family.
Merle is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, John F. Frenzel; two daughters, Virginia Leis DVM and Deborah (Alexander) Gleissner; her grandson, Isaac Gleissner; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Anne Rysse.
Merle was preceded in death by her parents, Norton and Virginia Holland; her brother, Richard Holland and sister, Sally (Holland) Fox.
