Obituary
Merle A. Robbins, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, was born November 21,1935 in Opp, Alabama to Andrew and Vonnie Mae Anderson. She passed away on February 25, 2023 at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center with her loving family at her side, after a courageous battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
Merle graduated from Opp, AL High School and began working in retail until she met her soul mate of forty-four years, Denzil C. Robbins, also of Opp, AL. They were married January 10, 1959 and relocated to Fort Walton Beach, FL., where they opened a business, started a family and lived out their lives.
Merle was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Fort Walton Beach for sixty-four years. She served on various committees in the church and lovingly served the Lord in many ministries throughout her 87 years.
Merle volunteered at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center as an Auxiliarist for many years. She was a member of the Krewe of Bowlegs for multiple years, serving on the honor guard and as First Mistress.
Her hobbies included playing tennis, racket ball, golf, bowling, and bridge. Merle was an avid reader and always encouraged her grandchildren to read. In her later years, she found great enjoyment in watching all different kinds of sports, especially rooting for the Auburn Tigers; however, her passion in life was being a devoted wife, mother, and Gran-Gran.
Merle was preceded in death by her loving husband, Denzil C. Robbins; parents and brothers.
She is survived by her son, Andrew Clanton (Clay) and his fiancé, Dory Rolison of Fort Walton Beach; daughter, Deana Dall and her husband, Jason of Lafayette, Louisiana; loving grandchildren, Chandler Robbins and wife, Ana of Destin, FL., Taylor Wayne Robbins of Destin, FL., Celton Denzil and Adriana Elvi Dall of Lafayette, LA.; sister-in-law, Betty Anderson of Destin, FL.; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 103 First Street, Fort Walton Beach, with the Reverend Chandler Robbins and Gillian Walters officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to be made to the First United Methodist Church (Reference- Denzil and Merle Robbins Memorial Fund).
