Merle Mortensen Vaughan Allen

Our loving mother, aunt, great aunt, Merle Mortensen Vaughan Allen, 91, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025, in Brigham City, Utah.

She was born on February 13, 1934, in Brigham City, the only child of Hyrum and Violet Smith Mortensen.

Merle graduated from Box Elder High School in 1952.

She married her first husband, William Knowlton Vaughan on March 24, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple and married by Joseph Fielding Smith. From this union they have a son William Mortensen Vaughan. William preceded her in death. She later married Ralph Allen, he preceded her in death.

Merle was a talented lady where; she learned sign language since her husband Ralph was deaf.

Surviving is one son William Mortensen (Libertad Green) Vaughan of Victoria, Virginia; her niece Marian Hope of Brigham City, Utah; great niece, Kathy (Dennis) White of Farr West, Utah; Vicki Johnson of LaVerkin, Utah; Diane (Richard) Johnson of West Jordan, Utah; Trudena (Greg) Fager, Centerville, Utah; Robert (Karolyn) Hope, American Fork, Utah; Valerie (Mick) Edlefsen, Fillmore, Utah; Dale (Isabelle) Hope, Idaho City, Idaho; Evan (Kathleen) Hope, Arizona; Sperry (Teresa) Hope of Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, William Vaughan and her second husband, Ralph Allen, two nieces Ruth Nelson, and Sylvia Knight.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 11:30 am at the Brigham City Cemetery. 495 E 500 S., Brigham City, Utah.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Gillies Mortuary, 634 E 200 S., Brigham City, Utah.
