Merlene Setta Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wolfe Funeral Home - Fort Mill on Jan. 4, 2024.
Merlene "Mer" Setta (Bifano) passed away on January 2, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on January 20, 1936, in Carbondale, PA, to Frank and Agnes (McCabe) Bifano. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Bernard "Bernie" Setta, who passed away in 2009.
Mer was not only a devoted wife but also a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother "GG", leaving behind many cherished memories. Surviving her are her son and daughter-in-law, David and Peggy Setta of Clover, S.C., and her daughter, Beth Webber of Fort Mill, S.C. Mer is also survived by her grandchildren, Andrea and Eric Steiner, and Chris and Brittany Webber, along with great-grandchildren Cora Steiner, Camden Webber, and Bria Steiner. Preceding her in death are her younger brothers, Joseph and Frances Bifano, while surviving are her sisters-in-law, Karen Bifano and Susan Bifano.
A graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School in Carbondale, PA, Merlene embarked on a career in retail, dedicating her efforts to Lee's and Ginny's in Endicott, NY. She was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of Christ the King and Saint Ambrose Church in Endicott. Mer found joy in card games, particularly bridge, playing in leagues with dear friends. She appreciated lively conversations during Friday happy hours, sipping wine with a generous glass of ice, and the pleasures of shopping. In her later years, she moved to Fort Mill, South Carolina, to be close to her family.
Merlene Setta will be laid to rest beside her husband at Riverhurst Cemetery in Endicott, NY. A gathering to celebrate her life will be hosted at the home of Andrea and Eric Steiner on January 14, 2024, from 1-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Make-A-Wish Central & Western North Carolina, a cause that held a special place in Mer's heart.

A correction, in a previous post, I mentioned Mere never ordered ice in her wine at happy hour, mostly true, she always asked for it on the side. Smart lady.

Away at college, no money, few friends, and low test scores with the weekend coming up. Low and behold a birthday card in my mailbox with $10.00 - I felt like a King. it was from lovely Merlene!

Tom and I are so sorry for the your loss. We will miss Merlene very much! We so enjoyed picking her up and taking her to breakfast and shopping, however our fondest memories were the many experiences and laughter she shared with my mom Rita Tricarico when she visited Tom and I here in South Carolina. Merelen will always hold a special place in our hearts.

David and Beth,
So sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom. Our parents were such close friends. When I remember all of the gatherings that our families shared, I feel very blessed! I hope that you can find comfort in the memories of your Mom.
Love, Wendy Dailey

Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my god-mother Merlene.

She was very kind to me especially when it was my birthday, or a stay at the hospital-always coming up with a neat gift , a card with five bucks, and some much appreciated love. .It boosted my self confidence and made me feel special. Thanks Mere, may God bless you and reserve s special place for you in His care.
