Merlin Arthur Hanson, 90, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 8, 2026 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Funeral services for Merlin will be held Monday, February 16, 2026 at Christ Lutheran Church, 290 Idema St. in Shreveport at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Springhill City Cemetery in Springhill, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Pastor Shannon at the church and Bro. Charles at the graveside.
Merlin was born June 27, 1935 in Ettrick, Wisconsin to Art and Mable Hanson, and passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Merlin grew up in Wisconsin, but spent the majority of his life in Louisiana, eventually settling down in retirement to Springhill, Louisiana. His life was defined by service, devotion, and a deep love for family. After graduating high school, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Air Force during the Korean War in 1955. As flight crew on KC refuelers, he traveled the world and eventually returned to Louisiana, stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City—where he met the love of his life, his wife, Sandra.
Following his military service, Merlin began a long and dedicated career in civilian life. He first worked as an engineer at KWKH before joining Simplex Time Recorder, where he remained until his retirement. Outside of work, Merlin found joy in the simple, meaningful parts of life: his church community, camping trips, golf outings, playing guitar, and every moment spent with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandra Hanson; sister, Elsie Hanson; and brother, David Hanson. Left to cherish his memory is his son, Greg Hanson and his wife, Jennifer; daughters, Vicki Hanson and Joan Marshall and husband, Bill; brother, Dick Hanson; and sisters, Lois Bussie, Carolyn Thomas, and Judy Hume.
Merlin will be remembered for his steady kindness, and his quiet strength. He will be terribly missed, but the family will always cherish the memories we made together.
