New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, in New Iberia, for Merlin John Kern, III, 47, of Erath, who passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

Entombment will be at a later date.

Rev. Garrett Savoie will be the Celebrant.

Visitation will be Tuesday, from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at Pellerin Funeral Home, and will continue Wednesday, from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.

A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 6:00 pm, on Tuesday evening.

Merlin was born in New Iberia, on May 25, 1977, and was currently a resident of Erath. He was a graduate of New Iberia Senior High School, and was a manager at Walmart, in Abbeville. An avid truck enthusiast, Merlin enjoyed playing videos and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his father, Merlin Kern, II (Charlene) of New Iberia; mother, Malissa Landry of St. Martinville; sister, Melanie Kern of Spokane, Washington; nephew, Shaun Wilkinson of Spokane, Washington; niece, Shelby Wilkinson of Spokane, Washington; uncle and aunt, Russell and Rae Ann Adams of Erath; aunt, Roxane Gautreau (Clyde) of Richmond, Texas, Julie Landry, and Amedia Theriot (Chad); step sisters, Hollie Bowen and Bridget Gautreaux; and numerous cousins.

Merlin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Merlin Kern, I, Annie Mae Derouen Kern, Dutil Landry, and Ramona Landry; aunt, Jessica Landry.
