Merrill Dunivan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by DuPage Cremations, Ltd. and Memorial Chapel on Dec. 19, 2025.
Merrill "Mike" Dunivan, a man who lived life in the fast lane-quite literally as a semi-truck driver-has completed his final journey on this earth. On December 9, 2025, he peacefully parked the rig of his life while in hospice care at Hines VA Hospital, after a brave battle with lung cancer. Mike chose to be cremated, and the family plans to lay him to rest with military honors at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in late spring.
Mike is survived by his wife, Sheila (Freese), of 30 years, who stood by him through every mile of life. Their son's Jacob and Mitchell of Aurora, IL, as well as Michael of Shullsburg, WI, from his prior marriage. His brother, Bryant (and sister-in-law Theresa) Dunivan of Estero, FL, plus an extended family of niece, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in his final departure by his parents, Janet Akers and Edmond Dunivan, and his siblings, Frances Simons and Britt Dunivan.
Mike was a proud veteran, having served his country in the United States Marine Corps-a chapter of his life that shaped the man he would become. Post-service, Mike soon found himself behind the wheel of his own semi, cruising down highways. For 40+ years, Mike was the king of the road and his truck was his castle. When not on the road, Mike was either at the bowling alley or having a few beers with friends. Life was his party.
So, here's to Merrill "Mike" Dunivan, a man could tell you a story as long as the road, and whose laughter could drown out the roar of his truck's engine. He's taken the exit ramp to that great highway in the sky, leaving us with memories as cherished as the miles he traveled. You may be gone, but you will not be forgotten. We'll catch up with you down the road.
