Age 88, of Warsaw, passed away on November 9, 2025, at the Charlotte House in North Java, surrounded by family.
Pete was born on February 4, 1937, in Warsaw, son of the late Merritt and Helen Chamberlain Broughton Jr. He graduated from Letchworth Central School in 1956. After high school Pete continued his lifelong passion for farming. In 1966 he married his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Kay Frank Broughton. Pete also worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Silver Springs until its closing in 2024 and was a current member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Warsaw. Pete was also a member of the Warsaw Moose Lodge where he was the caller on bingo nights. He enjoyed going to the Wyoming County Fair in Pike, attending antique tractor shows and pulling events, attending grandchildren’s many activities, and spending time with the family dog, Fluffy.
Pete is predeceased by his parents and brothers, Phillip Broughton, James Broughton, and Sidney Broughton; a sister-in-law, June (Floyd) Fuller; a brother-in-law, John (Judy) Frank.
He survived by his wife Kay Broughton of Warsaw; his daughter, Barbara (Randy Phillips) DeGolyer of Lake Wales, FL; his sons, Merritt “Pete” (Marie George) Broughton IV of Silver Springs, Jonah (Abigail) Broughton of Attica, Frank (Michele) Broughton of Silver Springs; his brothers, Colin Broughton of Silver Springs, Randy (Becky) Broughton of Gainesville; his grandchildren, Hannah (Benjamin) Drouhard, Elissa DeGolyer, Calvin DeGolyer IV, Kaitlyn Broughton, Evan Broughton, Braiden Broughton, Ethan Broughton, Oliver George, McKenna Broughton, Kelsey Broughton, Spencer Broughton, Russell Broughton, Owen Broughton, and Emily Broughton; his sister-in-laws, Darlene Broughton, Carol (Dick) Morgan; his brother-in-law, Bill (Linda) Frank; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and long-time close family friend, Doug (Norma) Rutherford.
Friends may call on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 3-7 PM at Robinson and Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. A funeral mass for Pete will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11 AM at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 171 N. Main St., Warsaw. Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Silver Springs will follow the funeral mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charlotte House, P.O. Box 123, North Java, NY 14113.
