Meta Elizabeth Brown Seltzer
Meta Seltzer was born April 23, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York. She passed away peacefully in her Navarre, Florida home on October 12, 2022, after a determined fight against MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome).
She will sadly be missed by all who knew her.
She had three older brothers, and was fondly called 'Sis' in her young years growing up in New Jersey. At a young age she was inspired to go to college and study nursing. In 1956 she graduated from Mountain Side Hospital School of Nursing in New Jersey. Next, in 1965 she earned her Bachler of Science degree in Nursing from Jersey City State College.
Shortly thereafter she became a licensed Registered Nurse and soon attained her master's degree from Arizona State college in 1972.
She worked primarily as an RN in the operating room. Her many years of education and hands on nursing practice positioned her to serve as the Dean of Nursing responsible for eight colleges within the Maricopa Community College District and lived in Scottsdale, Arizona.
While excelling in her nursing career, she also committed to The United States Army Reserve. She deployed to Desert Storm and oversaw the 403rd Combat Support Hospital. In 1994, she retired from The Army Reserves as a full bird Colonel.
Upon retirement, Meta moved to Navarre, Florida to be closer to her son and grandchildren. She quickly integrated into her new community and became a certified Master Gardener. Meta's love of nursing continued into her retirement as she authored fifteen editions of a nursing textbook titled, "Drug Calculations, Ratio and Proportion Problems for Medical Practice." Meta was an avid animal lover, who consistently had a dog by her side throughout her life. She gave very generously to help many different animal rescue associations.
Meta was a fearless and accomplished woman who embraced challenges and lived life to the fullest. She loved to be around other people who enjoyed her delightful, charismatic personality and contagious love of laughter. Should took pleasure in entertaining friends and family within her home and participating in community events. She was affectionately known as 'Grams' by children and people of all ages because of her warm, hospitable nature.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Meta Elizabeth Brown and Harold Brown; two brothers, Harold Brown and Don Brown; husband, Thomas McClure; and her daughter-in-law, Sharon Seltzer.
Meta is survived by a brother, Bob Brown; her son, Randall Morton Seltzer; granddaughter, Seven Lyn Seltzer; grandson, Randall Morton Seltzer, II, (Colby); and five great grandchildren.
Visitation for Meta will be from 10:00-11:00am Monday October 24, 2022 at Lewis Funeral Home Navarre Chapel, 7794 Navarre Parkway Navarre, Florida 32566, followed by a memorial service at 11:00am.

Meta (Sis) and I grew up together. So many memories, but one of double dating and another of making taffy are two of them. I considered her brother Don (Bean) my first boyfriend. (grade school) . I am so sorry I didn't know of her passing and due to not hearing from her on the death of my husband, I started searching. I will continue to miss, probably my best and dearest friend. My sincerest sympathy to Bob and all her family. Love from Linda Burrows
