Mg "Jerry" Berard

Jerome "Jerry" Berard, age 87, passed away peacefully Monday, January 27th, 2025 in his home surrounded by his family in Fort Walton Beach, FL. Born on August 21, 1937, in the charming town of Hayward, WI to Anthony and Vivian Berard, Jerry was known for his infectious laughter, boundless energy, and the world's warmest smile.
Jerry met the love of his life, Joan, during their junior year of high school when he made quite the impression by picking her up from her job at the family grocery store. Their shared smiles turned into a love story that lasted a dazzling 70 years. Jerry was a loving husband, a proud father of one son and two daughters, and a friend to many. He brought people together, not just with his accomplishments, but with his witty stories and playful spirit.
An accomplished Major General in the Army National Guard, Jerry enjoyed serving his country while always reminding us all to enjoy a good laugh. Beyond his commendable service, he was a passionate outdoorsman who loved to hunt, bike, and golf. Jerry even built the Birkebeiner Ski Trail system and managed a ski resort in the winter season. In the summer Jerry managed Historyland Logging Camp in his hometown.
Jerry is predeceased by his parents, as well as, his two brothers Curt and Wayne. He leaves behind his beloved wife Joan, his devoted children, Deb (Bert) Freeman, Mike and Diane (Jean Marie) Maubet, 4 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. and friends who remember him for his adventurous spirit and big heart. In his honor, a memorial service will be held in Ft. Walton Beach, FL Thursday, February 6th, 2025 at 11 AM at the McLaughlin Mortuary Chapel with a visitation taking place at 10 AM where all who loved him are invited to share a smile and a story. A private ceremony will be held at the veterans cemetery in his hometown, where Jerry will rest peacefully.
So raise a glass, tell a joke, and remember Jerry, who taught us all to enjoy life, one adventure at a time! In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to The off Miracle Strip Pkwy in Fort Walton Beach.
