COHOES Michael E. Abdella, 71, passed away peacefully Monday, July 22, 2024 at Samaritan Hospital with his two sons by his side.
Born in Cohoes, he was the son of the late Deb Michael Abdella and Sue Gaunce Abdella. He graduated from Cohoes High School and worked most of his life driving truck for Teamsters Local 294 and more recently also drove for Penske. Mike always looked forward to his visits from his Teamster movie buddies.
Mike was a huge NASCAR fan. In his younger years, he loved taking rides all over on his motorcycle, belonged to a motorcycle group and even drove across country. He also enjoyed boating with family and friends on Saratoga Lake and Lake George. Although he had many interests, the most important part of his life was always his family. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life and he cherished every moment and memory with them.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Mary Jude Brisson Abdella; by his beloved sons, Michael E. Abdella II (Jacquie) and Jeremiah L. Abdella (Amie); by his adored grandchildren, Logan, Carson, Jack, Aaron and Theresa; by his siblings, Bill Abdella (Molly), Donna Abdella, Mary Sue Michon (Thomas John) and Joe Abdella; and by his lifelong friend and race buddy, Ken Canestrari. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, William Brisson (Theresa), his sisters-in-law, Dawn and Eileen Brisson as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a large extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Mary Brisson; father-in-law, Joseph Brisson, sister-in-law, JoAnne Murray and brother-in-law, Larry Brisson.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, September 28th at 9 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Trinity, 122 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waterford.
