Rosemary Abdella Obituary

Rosemary Abdella
Rosemary Abdella, 70, passed away on September 7, 2025, in Lincoln, MA, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the loving wife of James Abdella for 45 years. Rosemary was born on October 4, 1954, in Danbury, CT to the late James L. Purcell Jr. and Rosella Donahue Purcell. Rosemary attended St. Joseph's School and graduated from Immaculate High School in 1972. Rosemary began her career at the Danbury News Times and Barden Corporation in Danbury, CT, until she started her family in 1981 and moved to Southbury. She worked as a caretaker in Heritage Village while she raised her four children. She also worked for the Southbury Parks and Recreation Department and then as the Assistant Town Clerk in Southbury for many years. Rosemary was kind and genuine, known for her humor, and the effortless way she made everyone around her feel loved. She was a natural caregiver, a devoted Catholic and active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southbury. Rosemary is survived by her husband, James Abdella, brother, James L. ("Jay") Purcell III, her children Leandra Pellegrino (Mike); James Abdella Jr. (Kirsten); Erin Demerjian (Greg); Regina French (Steve) and her grandchildren: Bryce and Emily Pellegrino; James Abdella III; Madelyn Rose and Gregory Demerjian; and Ella Rose and Leo French. She is also survived by her Uncle Jeffrey (Barbara) Donahue; her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents and brother John Morgan Purcell. Her presence brought light and laughter to every room, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who knew her. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM in the daily chapel of Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South in Southbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 26, 2025 at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South in Southbury. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter Cemetery in Danbury.
