Michael Harvey Adams, 76, of Johannesburg, MI (formerly Alpena, MI) passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025 at Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital.
Mike was born in Hillsdale, MI, the son of Erma (Price) and Elwood Adams and beloved younger brother to Marion, Rosalie, Linda and Barbara. He graduated from North Adams High School and attended Eastern Michigan University, where he graduated with a degree in Education.
He moved to the Gaylord area after graduation, where he met Cynthia Johnson Everett, whom he married that year. They had 2 children together, Gordon and Carrie, and created a wonderful and loving home. Cindy passed away in 1994, after an extended illness.
Mike worked alongside his wife in the family newspaper business, managing 2 of the papers and doing sales in the Alpena area. The office they worked at turned into extended family, with many employees becoming lifelong friends whom he loved dearly.
Mike was known as a kind man, always helping out anyone in need. He also had a unique sense of humor, enjoying making people laugh. Family was the most important thing in Mike's life. He loved his children dearly, and now his grandchildren. He was an amazing father who was always present, giving his time and never-ending love and support.
Mike had a strong faith in God, and this faith guided his life and gave him comfort at the end. He was always active in his churches and community.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman, happiest when he was participating in some type of activity outside or in the woods. He loved fishing, hunting, and golf. He loved to travel and spent many of his years camping with his family. He loved reading and was a history buff.
Remaining to cherish Mike's memory are his children: Gordon (Sarah) Adams, Carrie (John) Miller, 2 step-sons Nicholas (Taylor) Hawley, Justin Hawley; 6 grandchildren: Laina, John Michael, Marie, Anna, Avery, Otto; 2 siblings: Marion Adams, Linda Draper; multiple nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Winston.
Preceding Mike in death are his spouse, Cynthia Adams; his parents Erma and Elwood Adams; and his siblings Rosalie Fouty and Barbara Newbill.
The family will visit with friends beginning at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, where the memorial service will begin at 12:00 PM. Immediately following the service, please join the family at BJ's Catering & Event Center.
