Obituary published on Legacy.com by Peterson Chapel – Buffalo on Feb. 9, 2026.
Michael Loren Anderson, age 69, passed peacefully holding hands with his dear wife and daughter on February 6, 2026 after a courageous battle with lung complications following a surgery in December.
Mike was born February 9, 1956 to Loren and Arlene (Enger) Anderson in
Monticello, Minnesota. He was raised in Blaine, graduating from Spring Lake Park in 1974. During his high school years, he met Kris (Lungstrom) and in 1978 they were married and were blessed to share 47 years together. They were longtime residents of Coon Rapids, but recently relocated to St. Michael. Mike worked in purchasing for Northstar before finishing his career at Nilfisk.
Mike was a lifelong Type 1 diabetic, but rather than allowing the disease to limit and define him, he chose to approach each day as a gift, treasuring the memories made with family and friends. From motorcycle trips with Kris in the early years to various vacations as a family and countless weekends at the cabin, we cherished the time together and will hold tightly to the wonderful memories we have with Mike.
One of Mike's favorite pastimes was being a "SuperFan" to any activities his daughter, nieces, or nephews (and later grandsons) participated in. From coaching basketball teams, to sweating at every swim meet, or more recently embracing the rink life and baking at the baseball fields, Mike was always found in the stands animatedly cheering on his family like it was the Olympic finals. He passionately cheered on Gopher football and basketball and March Madness was an event to behold each year. We take comfort knowing he's cheering from heaven with the best seats in the house.
Mike took pride in everything he did and always aimed to do the right thing. While it was ongoing complications from diabetes that eventually took him from us, we know he is no longer suffering and is at peace. He will be remembered as the best Bapa a kid could hope for, dedicated dad, devoted husband, and friend to all he met – his compassionate personality made all who knew him feel cared for.
Mike is survived by his wife: Kris; his daughter: Rachel Dayton (Jamie); his beloved grandsons: Grady and Gabe; as well as his mother-in-law: Joan Lungstrom; siblings: Kris (Craig), Karen (Dawson) and Dave (Caryl); brothers-in-law: Kent (Lori), Kraig (Rachael) and Kelly (Karen); and numerous nieces and nephews and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Douglas.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am on Monday, February 23rd at Lord of Life in Maple Grove with a visitation 1 hour prior and light luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to Second Harvest Heartland.
