Michael was born September 2, 1950, in Owosso, Michigan, the son of Howard and Geraldine (Gilbert) Ashford. He graduated from Owosso High School, Class of 1969. He married Lana Jo (Cooper) on (September 12, 1969 in Durand, Michigan. He enjoyed music and loved playing the drums. He was an avid University of Michigan football fan. Michael worked for Conway Central Express as a truck driver for over 20 years. He loved being outdoors; especially boating and fishing. He spent a lot of time making memories at the cottage on Hilland Lake with his family and going out to eat with friends. His greatest joy came from being a grandparent to 7 extraordinary people and great-grandfather to 5 amazing souls; attending and supporting their activities as they grew up.
Michael is survived by his children, Michael (Karen) Ashford II and Iola Jill (Eric) Smith; grandchildren, Julie (Jesse) Costello, Michael Robinson, Crystal (Kevin) Gadd, Joshua Ashford, Lynzi Ashford, Naia Smith, and Sierra Smith; great-grandchildren, Jacob Costello, Olivia Robinson, Parker Costello, Maisy Robinson, and Paxton Robinson; brothers, Sherman (Sherrie) Ashford, Howard Ashford, and David Ashford; sisters, Loretta Spinning and Dorothy (Bill) Dunn. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Lana Jo; sisters, Joan Case, Nancy Hansen, and Sally Bennett.
