Michael Ryan Austin tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident, in the early morning hours of October 2,2024. Mike was a headstrong, free-spirited, big personality with an even bigger heart and a great sense of humor. He was as kind as he was tough, and losing him has left a giant empty space in the lives of everyone that knew and loved him.
Michael grew up in Rhode Island, where he attended school at West Bay Christian Academy, and later graduated from Exeter-West Greenwich High School, Class of 2000. Shortly after graduation Michael enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he trained at NCTC Port Hueneme, and served in the Iraq War as a proud member of the Navy Seabees Unit. Michael was a gifted mechanic and hard worker, employed with Metcalf Paving, and Dinardo Painting for many years.
Michael leaves behind his children, Nathan and Ava, his mom Kathleene (Kat) Austin of Yantic, his sisters Shannon Austin, also of Yantic and Bernadette Ruiz of Deland, Florida, his nieces, Aydyn Celico and Shelby Mayo of Stonington and his "Gram" Joan Dewick of Yantic.
He was predeceased by his dad Randall Austin, maternal and paternal grandparents, and several aunts and uncles. Michael has a large extended family of cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends that are all deeply feeling his loss.
Michael loved riding his Harley. He loved to make people laugh, he loved music, and loved to sing loudly! And mostly he fiercely loved his family and friends. Smile and laugh when you think of him. Life is a short appearance, make it count!
