Michael Bowie passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at his home on January 21, 2026.
Michael walked through life with an extraordinary set of challenges. Despite his circumstances, he lived each day with grace and humility that was deeply humbling to all who knew him. Cared for by his family, along with a special caregiver of many years, Michael carved out a quiet little place in this world, one where anyone could come and sit a spell with him. He found joy in simple pleasures: playing cards and board games, watching baseball and WVU sports, building model airplanes, enjoying a milkshake, and of course, anything sweet. A man of few words, Michael spoke volumes through his beautiful watercolor paintings, each one a heartfelt gift to anyone fortunate enough to receive it.
Michael had a one-of-a-kind blended family of many. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jane Bowie Kiger and Walter Scott Bowie II, and his brother, Vaughn Kiger.
He is survived by his sisters, Kay Kelly, Jan Kiger, and Pat Morgan, and his brothers, Scott Bowie, and Bob Bowie, as well as loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will carry his memory with them always.
Michael will forever be remembered as a kind soul with warm, sparkly eyes, a gentle spirit, and a smile brighter than the sun.
In his memory, donations are being accepted through a GoFundMe, https://gofund.me/3eee80850, to purchase a memorial bench in a local park; a place for family, friends, and even strangers to come sit with him in spirit and enjoy life’s simple pleasures; or to a nonprofit of your choice in his memory.
A private memorial will take place at a later date.
Hastings Funeral Home has been entrusted with cremation arrangements and condolences may be sent to the family online at www.hastingsfuneralhome.com
