Michael David Boyd, 74, of Ashland Ohio, passed away on October 25th, 2024 due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease. He was born in Mansfield, Ohio on February 12th, 1950 to the late Robert and Donna Boyd.
Michael is survived by his loving wife Faith Boyd; Daughter Megan Huskey (Dennis Huskey), brother Bob Boyd (Cris Boyd) and nephew Jason Boyd (Jill Boyd) and their son and daughter Blake and Hannah.
Michael got his bachelor's degree from Miami University and went on to get his master’s degree from what was then called Ashland College now Ashland University.
Mike retired from teaching at Ashland Highschool where he taught ninth grade English. He had a passion for teaching and was awarded “Teacher of the Year”. His colleagues became lifelong friends, who he kept in touch with throughout the years.
When he was able, he enjoyed golfing, softball and traveling. He never met a dog he didn’t like and had a special treat for each dog in the neighborhood.
After moving to Akron a few years ago he quickly became surrounded by a group of wonderful neighbors. They sat out together every day to discuss the worlds events and the best places to go out to eat. The bond he shared with them was truly special.
Calling hours will be held November 16th from 12 pm to 1pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, with a brief service to honor him immediately following. In remembrance of Michael’s love for animals and commitment to further research for a cure for Parkinson’s Disease, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, One of A Kind Pet Rescue or Lakemore Homeward Bound for Dogs.
