Michael Gene Brainerd, 82, passed away on December 10, 2025, surrounded by his family.
He was born on October 22, 1943 in Grafton, IL to Charles and Blanche (Greenwalt) Brainerd.
He married Kim Brainerd, she preceded him in death. He later remarried Kay Christine Ullrich on October 31, 1987 in St. Louis, MO.
He attended Jerseyville Community High School. He then became an Electrical Engineer for MEMC. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He enjoyed building model airplanes. He even enjoyed his own machine shop in his basement. He loved traveling and traveled to most of the United States.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kay Brainerd; children, James A. (Julie) Brainerd from Washington, and Kris Brainerd of Godfrey, IL.; step children, John (Hanna) Luzynski of Barnhart, MO., Donald (Crish) Luzynski of Tennesse, Kenneth Luzynski of Oakville, MO, Cathy (Dave) McGarity of Imperial, MO., Richard Luzynski of Lousiville, KY, and Dennis Luzynski of Sullivan, MO; brother, Charles (Charlotte) Brainerd of Grafton, IL; sister, Linda Milton of St. Louis, MO; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Kim Brainerd; son, Michael Brainerd; and several siblings.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home, Godfrey, IL.
Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 15, 2025 at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, IL. Pastor Charles Rapp, will be the officiant.
Burial will take place at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey, IL.
