Publish in a newspaper

Margaret A. (Meg) Brainerd, 69, of Poughkeepsie, died Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Born in Newton,

MA on October 16, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Richard C. and Elizabeth Walker Brainerd. A

graduate of the Lakeland school district, she attended Westchester Community College and SUNY

Geneseo. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving for six years in San Diego, CA and Portsmouth, VA and

was honorably discharged. She later worked at Norfolk General Hospital and was instrumental in

establishing the lab which enabled Norfolk General to perform tissue and organ transplants. Several

years later she moved back to New York where she worked as a certified medical technician at

Westchester Medical Center, St. Francis, and Castle Point VA Hospitals.

Meg was an active Christian with a servant's heart. She volunteered with Big Brother/Big Sister,

CareNet, and many other organizations. She served in the Cursillo, Tres Dias, and Kairos communities.

Meg had a passion for nature. From the mountains of Virginia, Maine and Alaska to the seashores of

Massachusetts, San Diego and St. Croix, her favorite places to be were in the outdoors. She preferred

sleeping on the oars of an Outward Bound sailboat to the finest hotel, and hiking the Appalachian Trail to

shopping the malls. She loved to share those experiences with family and friends and was a

knowledgeable and patient teacher for anyone who wanted to learn how to get along in the outdoors. We

will miss her adventurous spirit and caring attentiveness.

Meg is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Judy and Jay Butler of Wappingers Falls and

their daughters Lydia and Cindy, her brother and sister-in-law Bob and Cindy Brainerd of Poughkeepsie

and their daughters Megan (Emilio), Michelle (Matt), Callie (Michael), and Rachel (Silas), and four

cousins: Nancy, Chris, Janet, Bill, and their families.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home in Poughkeepsie, NY.

There are no calling hours. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 30 at 11:00 AM at

Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, 253 Myers Corners Road, Wappingers Falls. A private internment

will follow later. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to www.WorldVision.org/GiftCatalog , a child

sponsorship organization that Meg supported for many years.
