Age 81, of Castile, passed away on November 30, 2025 at Eastside Nursing Home in Warsaw, NY.
He was born in Warsaw, NY on June 8, 1944 to the late Harold and Gladys Burger Brainerd. Merland was an Untied States Army veteran. He worked for the Town of Gainesville Highway Department as MEOP for 35 years, and was also a volunteer firefighter for the town. Merland attended Letchworth New Life Fellowship Church in Silver Springs.
In earlier years he was a Boy Scout leader, enjoyed construction, and camping and hiking with his family. After retirement Merland enjoyed woodworking and antiquing.
Along with his parents, Merland was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy Manchester Brainerd who passed away in 2017, and his siblings, Randy Brainerd, Charlene Brainerd, and Wanda Brainerd.
He is survived by his son, Merlin (Jamie) Brainerd of Castile, step grandchildren, Evan and Abigail Sarkis, and his late-life companion, Deb Smith.
A celebration of life will be scheduled in the spring. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
