It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Brenton on January 28th at his home in Waterford, with his wife and daughter at his side. He was a wonderful person and will be missed by all who knew him.
Mike was born on Valentine's Day 1946 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He lived a life full of hard work, travel, and dedication to his family. He joined the Air Force in 1964 and served until being honorably discharged in 1971 due to a leg amputation from a motorcycle accident. He worked as a government contractor for the remainder of his career including years spent in Germany with his wife. They loved the opportunity that this career shift offered and immersed themselves in German culture, skied in the Alps, and visited as many countries as possible. They returned to the United States in 1988 and made their home in Loudoun County. Mike was a dedicated member of his church for many years, serving in leadership positions and playing a key role in establishing the church preschool. Those who knew Mike characterized him by his work ethic, desire to be of service to others, and grace in embracing life's challenges.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sally Lewis Brenton; daughters Michele Schuler (Ted) and Emily Groo (Eric); sons David Brenton (Valerie) and Matthew Brenton (Tammie); nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Sandy Mion, Stephanie Brenton, Barbara Hepburn, and Judy Piffner; and one brother, Raymond Brenton; as well as numerous other relatives and friends who adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a granddaughter, Madison, and a grandson, Stephan.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 22nd at 11 am at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Purcellville, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Madison Brenton Foundation (https://www.madisonbrentonfoundation.org/) or St. Andrew Presbyterian Church (https://www.standrew-pres.org/).
Mike's memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace.
